My son told me that his Luitenant talked to him and told him that he was going to place him on meritorious mast and the CO would need to approve it. What does
all that mean?

Old naval term. Someone else asked this exact question within the past few weeks. I'll see if I can find the complete answer. Not sure if it was this board
or the PI board, or where.
Tom Found it... Here we go: http://usmc.yuku.com/topic/998 Obviously I have no sense of time. This question was asked and answered a year ago! LOL I have no idea why I would have been reading back that far. Was puzzled because I'm sure I didn't read back that far, and found another one more recent question. http://usmc.yuku.com/reply/146101#reply-146101

So it doesn't necessarily mean he is up for promotion? My son is trying so hard to earn a promotion to LCpl. He has set a goal to earn it on his own. I
beleive he will automatically be promoted in 6-9 months. I was hoping it meant he earned the promotion.
So the way I understand it it is a recognition in his file. Thanks Diane VPMM of LCpl Shane

It's a certificate of recognition that certainly looks good when you are reviewed for a meritorious promotion, but the mast itself does not earn you the
promotion.
Tell him congrats!! Jessica

My son was recognized at the end of MCT at meritorious mast. Although it does not mean that it's a promotion, it is still a very important recognition and
our son was very proud to be recognized. Please be sure to congratulate him on the recognition - you should also be very proud.
