For anyone out there who knows a bit about 0651 and 0621, I have a question.... is it true that if the 0651 guys fail their course they will then become 0621???? My son, my hero

Also, thanks for the prayers! Welcome Deb! Congrats on your sons graduation! Often when they get to 29 Palms there is a few weeks to a few months wait for classes to start. Hopefully your son won't have to wait long. There is things he can do there and a Singles group he can join to go out and do things in the area. My son played a lot of pool when he first got there. Helped pass the time. They have to remain on base for like 21 days before they are allowed off base. What class is your son taking? Goodluck on this next step of your sons journey! I will say tho that my son, Alan, is stationed at 29 Palms after completing his MOS 0621 Field Radio Operator. He is marrying another Marine he met there the end of June. I will be flying out there, again, to his wedding. They will be getting married in Vegas.. and maybe we'll see Elvis! I have two other children still at home. I retired from being a single mom of 5 years, 2 years ago.. by getting married, lol.. I guess that's all there is for now. Long night tonight!! My husband and I have a poolie at home who will be shipping to PI in September. Talk about a roller coaster ride! Is it ok we are on the FAQ thread? Cathy I am very pleased to be hanging on the same thread as you. Funny how things work out eh? My son Mike is currently in his second week at 29 Palms and is bored silly!! Isn't it so strange how they go from one extreme to the other? He graduated from Delta Company in PI on April 17th and MCT May 26th (my birthday, the best present ever was to finally get to talk to my son!!) He is a reservist (for now anyway) so we are hoping he will get in to a class next week. He is 0621 Field Radio Operator. They try to push reservists ahead of active guys so they can get them out and not have to pay them for sitting around waiting. That is fine with me. Val, I know what you mean about that roller coaster. I hate roller coasters!!! I was sitting in my car today waiting for my daughter and I was texting with my son and referred to a picture he had sent me (a really goofy one of him in the mirror in his room) and I just started bawling. My daughter got in the car and didn't know what to do with me LOL. Man this roller coaster ride just keeps on going!! MY hubby graduated PI May 22nd, honor grad and Guide of PLT 1036! His MOS is Data Sytems. My name is Laura :) from Northern NJ. We have a 4 year old son names Jason Jr., we're both 28 years old, married for 6 years and together for 14 years on June 14th! Loong time!!! MY soul mate! Glad to meet you all!! Presently awaiting a phone call from hubby to see what his MOS orders are so I can start planning! He is in MCT. Got there June 2nd. I cant wait to move with him! I leave a career and a life in Jersey... but we needed this change, and he LOVES what he is doing!

I went there in March and had a blast. Does anyone have any funny stories to share? I'm dying for a funny story. My son didn't have any funny stories to share with me. I guess there was nothing funny to him in Boot Camp or MCT. :*( Our neighbor Mario, however, had a few things to say and one I will share with you all. While at Parris Island he was pretty miserable (aren't they all???) so as he'd be marching and drilling and pt'ing he'd just try to get his mind elsewhere so he'd picture beaches, carnivals, etc. until he'd catch a glimpse of a delivery truck on the island and it would have in big letters a city or state, such as Toledo, Ohio etc. and each time he'd think about stowing away on the delivery truck and heading to Toledo, Ohio... or anywhere, just to get away from PI. Can you imagine if he would've actually acted on his instincts? LOL I have to laugh but it gave me some insight on how desperate these Recruits were to get the heck off of that island! I would read posts on the board about guys having a great experience at boot camp and MCT and thought mine was the only one day dreaming about "stowing away" lol!!! I just got back from visiting my parents or I would have posted in here sooner. :) I'm Becka, my husband Q is about to hit his 2 year mark in August and I really can't believe he's been enlisted that long! We were at 29 Palms for almost a year while he was at MOS school for 2847. We left 29 palms at the end of January and are now at Camp Lejeune. After all the training my husband went through to learn how to fix computers... he does a completely different job now. He is with his unit in case their computers/telephones break but since they are normally just fine he has a different billet for his day-to-day work. Laura- 29 Palms is NOT as bad as people say it is. It's all in what you make of it. There is a lot within about 3 hours of driving to go see and do if you really want to. There are lots of playgrounds on base that you can take your son to, but make sure you ALWAYS get him covered up with sunscreen. Plan on very hot summer days with decent nights and winter is just crazy. It can be 40 degrees out in the morning and 70 at midday. It hardly ever rains and when it does, it generally lasts about 5-10 minutes. The first month or so you may get annoyed with the fact that everything is so far from the base, but once you get used to it you'll be fine. Palm Springs is about an hour to an hour and a half away depending on how you drive.
