Hey all. 2111 has moved from Aberdeen to Fort Lee. Thought I'd start the thread here, in the hopes someone else wants to chat. Going up there this weekend, and am taking Andrew to DC for a vacation! Can't wait.

My son is training as a Bulk Fuel Specialist there. He's coming home for Memorial Day weekend for his 96 hous of liberty. Have fun in DC!

My husband was originally aberdeen, but it changed to fort lee as he graduated MCT...he's still waiting for classes to pick up on July 6. We'll be spending the summer down in VA so his girls canspend the weekends with him! He's 2171

Andrew was home for 10 days on RA, and now is back awaiting the start of school. He did get moved to new barracks, and he loves his new digs. That's a plus. VA is beautiful. We went up for Memorial Day weekend, and took a trip to DC. It was a great time! Funny thing is my middle son is traveling up to A.P. Hill today, which is about an hour or so north of Fort Lee. His battalion is doing some predeployment training there. Too bad the two brothers can't see each other this weekend!

I believe training is about 64 days, once they start. Andrew has been there since he graduated PI on April 2, (except for a 2 week RA stay), because they were in the process of moving the school from MD to Fort Lee. But, it's a couple of month program when it is up and running, which it finally is now. Andrew's class is set to graduate September 4th. They started July 6th.

They will alternate duty weekends, so they won't have every weekend off.

My son is graduating tomorrow from MCT at Camp Geiger and will be heading out to Ft. Lee. He initially thought his MOS was going to be Combat Engineer then they changed it on him to 2111 but didn't tell him what that was. I googled it and found out. He was pumped to hear that since he loves weapons, guns, knives, Halo, etc etc etc. I hope Andrew has enjoyed his training.

Just came back from Fort Lee this evening. My son is assigned there for training on another ordnance 21xx MOS.

All the Ordnance MOSes except for one (I think 2147) are now at North Fort Lee. It's not in the old Fort Lee, but a new facility off Temple Road. Brand spanking new quarters, and new Troop Store (not as good as our MXs) across the street. Plan on 3-4 months once the training starts. The food service and bulk fuel guys are in the old Fort Lee area, across the road a few miles away. Lots of Army students, the Marines usually stay by themselves.

2111's will be assigned to the MAT (Marine Awaiting Training) platoon until class starts. They are in 1st platoon, from what I understand.

2111 is small arms repair, equivalent to gunsmith in the civilian world. Here's a good link with a description of the weapons he/she will work with. No Halo, or knives, but lots of guns and small artillery/mortars! Remember, it's repairing them and working in the armory in most assignments. Some 2111's will also see infantry action if they support a small unit in a remote outpost.

Hey all...Andrew enjoyed his training, but as he says, it "sucks" to be on an Army base! Marines are just a different species! On the up side, the new digs are great, and food is good. The PX is lousy, though...Andrew's mentor took his class up to Quantico, so the guys were able to stock up on what they needed. Andrew's class was the first graduating class at Fort Lee, and an entire class of reservists, which was unique. I guess they were a great group, and life was really hard for those following!! LOL!!

Hope your sons enjoy it!
