It really depends on their unit and company. OIF 08 & OEF 09, he was with line companies, so he was outside the all the time. OEF 11, he is with H&S, so he hasn't been outside at all. My son was waiting to be picked up with other Marines that graduated MCT with him. Some of them got picked up almost three weeks into it and some have still not been picked up. And if there are a lot of reservists there, who knows. Our son did pick up on June 7, no he is not reservist. He grads on August 4. Hope yours picks up fast. Posts: 7 Jul 19 11 2:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My nephew got picked up finally last tuesday he says the days are long but he is doing real well some of the guys that got picked up before him just found out they are headed to Okinawa Japan after there classes are done for two years. My nephew still is not sure where he will be headed. Does anyone know if they usually get the request they put in for or is it really up in the air. How soon into their classes do they find out where they will be headed next and is that going to be their PDS or just the next level of training??

His first choice was Hawaii. LOL He says hardly anyone got what they asked for. We also heard that a couple of classes ago the entire class got orders to Camp Lejeune, except for 2 people who got Pendleton, CA. There really isn't anyway to know for sure. The needs of the Marine Corps come first and it isn't their instructors who cut their orders, it is Headquarters Marine Corps. We were stationed in Okinawa for three years before and we loved it. Our son is excited about going to Japan. I am sad because of the distance, but that's how it goes. What duty station is your nephew hoping for? Is he married? At the time, the top 3 had their pick, that may be different now. He checked into a regiment, but was only with them for 6 months, before an infantry unit snatched him up and he deployed right away with them (3 combat deployments in 3 years). proud wife of Sgt Richard 2d LAR, Camp Lejeune ...so please, come home soon
